Blind Runner uses technology to run marathon without a guide

Like so many, Simon Wheatcroft was born with retinitis pigmentosa, a genetic eye disease that gradually causes vision to deteriorate.  Through his teen years, he was still able to make out some things.  But by age 27, his vision was completely gone.  But as an avid runner, Wheatcroft wasn't about to stand still.

Simon needed to keep running and wanted to increase his independence in mobility and figure out some things that might help others.  He started out using an app called Runkeeper to help him in running and has eventually he upped his game, using GPS and eventually the Airaapp to help with his mobility.  In fact, Wheatcroft was the first person in the U.K. to try out Aira, which he believes will be able to remove many of the difficult things in the lives of people with vision loss.
