This week (Sept 18, 2018) the Baltimore Orioles made history by honoring the 40th anniversary of the National Federation of the Blind's relocation of their offices to Baltimore with specially crafted game-day uniforms that had the team and all the players names spelled out in braille.
Federation president Mark Ricobono threw out the first pitch. Hundreds of visually impaired children and adults, and their families were at the game.
Baseball, like many sports, were broadcast on the radio before they were televised, and many blind fans listen to the games even if they visit the field as well. The Orioles have long worked with NFB to make the field as accessible as possible to blind fans. The Orioles auctioned off many of the jerseys to raise support for NFB.
