We've shared information on Blitab before, but here's an updated article from the September 3, 2018 New York Times on the tablet-style device with a glass surface which is perforated at the top into a grid with holes that allows liquid-based technology to present content in Braille.
Ms. Kristina Tsvetanova, chief executive of the company she co-founded: Blitab Technology (a play on the words blind and tablet), plans to introduce Blitab’s debut product, a portable tablet (also called Blitab) designed for blind and visually impaired people later this fall, indicating that it will soon be available for pre-order.
The top half of the tablet’s glass surface is perforated into a grid with holes, which allow Blitab’s liquid-based technology to create tactile relief — or “tixels” — that outputs content in Braille.
Currently Ms. Tsvetanova is awaiting the closing on a new round of financing. She is also negotiating with a number of American service providers in the telecom and banking sectors to integrate Blitab into their businesses.
In April 2018 Ms. Tsvetanova was revealed as one of six laureates recognized in the 2018 Cartier Women's Initiative Awards, selected by an independent international jury, from nearly 2800 applicants from over 130 nations. Founded in 2006, the Cartier Women’s Initiative Awards are open to women-run, for-profit businesses in any country and sector working to create strong social impact.
