Filmmaker, curator, and Ohio State University professor Roger Beebe's experimental film projection performances draw from found images and blend levity and gravitas as they grapple with American capitalism's late stages. His work tackles a wide range of subject matter, from exploring the materiality of film to Las Vegas suicides and the forbidden pleasures of men crying. Beebe will be in town this week to present a program of his performances on multiple 16mm projectors. Hosted by Visual Studies Workshop, the event will feature Beebe's recent award-winning work and some of his best-known past pieces, and will close with his acclaimed six-projector performance, "Last Light of a Dying Star."
Beebe will present "Last Light of a Dying Star" on Thursday, April 19, at Visual Studies Workshop, 31 Prince Street. 7 p.m. $5; free to VSW members. 442-8676; vsw.org.
